T-19 hard to get into 3rd gear

Have a t19 in a 1975 Scout. It is hard to get into 3rd gear most of the time. I'm kind of used to it, but you have to come out of 2nd gear, then kind of do a question Mark type jiggle and hook it into 3rd almost where first is. If it doesn't go in the first time, you pretty much have to skip 3rd or go back into 2nd and try again. Doc suggested it might be a loose bolt holding a shifter fork. Pulled top and the forks are roll pinned to the shafts and tight. Only thing that I noticed was there seems to be excessive play where the short dowel pin that comes in from the side of the shift cane retainer on top of the tranny engages the slot in the half ball pressed on the shifter cane. It's a new dowel pin, looks like the slot in the half ball is where the loosenes is. No other problems with the tranny, but this is very aggravating. Any suggestions?

The wide T19 in my 75 Scout was getting a little difficult to get into first gear, so decided to swap the cover plate off the close T19 sitting on the garage floor - the one that was a beast to get into 3rd gear when the transmission was installed. This pretty much confirmed it is the shift linkage in the cover plate that was making it very difficult to shift into 3rd gear. With the cover plates switched, the wide T19 went right into first gear, but fought me going into 3rd. Looks like there is a problem with the "horizontal reverse speed shift lock plunger spring" the plunger (item 19) just seems to be floating with no spring pressure on it. I have a rebuild kit for the top cover, it looks like it has the springs for the shift rod ball detentes, but not the plunger spring (item 18) mentioned above. Does IHPA offer a rebuild kit for the top cover, or anyone have a source for said spring?
