Symptom in any forward gear it makes a gear grinding noise when im off the gas in 3rd or 4th gear or if im moving pretty good and pop it in neutral and coast. I pulled the top plate every thing looked good from the top side and no signs of metal ill try and do a short vid

We don't need a video,... The transmission simply needs a full rebuild including all bearing sets!

Got the t 19 out and relized the t 98 does not have the same mounting bosses so there went my quick free fix :icon_evil: I also read about the rev idler trying to engaging while off throttle in forward gears anyone ever have that issue? The tranny is currently out and all the gears look great there does seem to be some excessive wear on the 3-4 shift fork

This guy had the same problem
he symptoms: in any forward gear, the Scout drives nicely under power. Letting off the gas and coasting in gear creates grinding and rattling, worst in second gear but detectable in all forward gears. I have figured out that the reverse idler is not fully disengaging all the way, but for some reason only makes contact when coasting. I have had two different top cover assemblies on this tranny and have had the top covers on anf off about a dozen times in the last month or two, so I am fairly certain that the problem does not lie in the top cover assembly nor in getting the shift rail notch lined up with the reverse selector lever - after removing it this many times I would have had to have hit the notch at least once. Besides, I do have a properly functioning reverse gear, and all of the forward gears work fine too."

In the pic # 66 was slid out and no sign of the clip 65 these all deal with the shift rail for rev
