Sure been quite around here

Hopefully everyone is working on their projects. I have been trying to get some time to crack down on an axle swap for the Travelall. I want them cleaned, painted and pretty before I throw them under but first I got to get them off. I would like to find some of that fancy slippery paint mayben's been using from dave's supply reserves for the inside of the housing.

While they are off I will need to go through the brake systems and make sure they are all up to proper working condition. I also have to replace some brake line on my Travelall. Some of that soft line crap just kind of fell apart while taking the hubs off.

I am not quite sure what to do about rebuilding them. Either go to a place like fluid connections with my ends and sizes and have them build them up, or gain the tools and knowledge on how to crimp my own ends on hose.

That's alot of crap to wade through just to swap some axles.

I hope all your projects are progressing well.

Ahh screw painting them up. I will do that when I pull it apart for phase II, beautifucation. That's after the Scout is done.

Does anyone local have any time this weekend or labor day weekend to help me swap out the axles? An experience eye might be helpful.

I haven't been working on any projects, unfortunately. Last weekend (Saturday) the dodge I was driving thanks to the parents finally let go. The engine got nicely toasted on the side of I-5. It was the one day I have forgotten my cell phone, I even considered going back and getting it, but thought I can go 1 day without it. Anyway, Monday after getting off work, I slept for about 90 minutes and then went to the credit union to see what my options are. I secured a dollar amount and went and talked to the auto broker. I got their at 9am and by noon I was the proud new owner of a 2000 red volvo s40. I don't like being more in debt, so the crawler went back up for sale. The original plan was to use the cash to fix the traveler, but now it will go to the volvo. Such is life. :frown5:

I worked on my Scout for 10 minutes yesterday. It was the 1st time I have touched it or started it since mid June.... The clutch linkage needed to be adjusted - but other than that it started right up and moved the 30 feet into the driveway where I needed it.

I have been spending all my waking hours working on my house. I checked my credit card statement online and since the 1st of the year I have spent enough at home depot to buy a dynatrac prorock Dana 60 front end for my Scout.... Ouch!

We are so close to being done I can taste it. The carpet should be installed Friday, the trim should go up Friday night and Saturday. The final touch up paint should be done Sunday.... Then we will have fully remodeled the entire house minus the kitchen!! Woo hoo!

Then it will be time to get back in the garage and finish my brothers Scout by mid October. After that goes away - I will haul the dually home, cut it up and start the rebuild of my Scout into a 4 seat thingy. Double woo hoo!!

I did take these pictures last night of my tube door -- it still needs a latch. It is one piece of 1-3/4" tube bent up and welded together where it meet back up.:

Nice doors chris! Did you reuse the stock hinge threaded mounts? Or did you go all custom there as well?

Wes, actually Saturday afternoon is one of the times I don't have to work on the vehicle. :( but I appreciate your offer.

I used stock hinges and welded them directly to the tube. They go on and off with 4 bolts.

Re: Sure been quiet around here

I've been slowly continuing on linda's lrw. I want to get the windows back into the doors so I can put the top on temporarily to trailer it down the the IHSFR in October. Figured putting the top back on was the best way to protect the interior. I can always take it off for the rallye and leave in the back of the pickup since I know it won't be finished by then.

Drove the rambleall to work the last couple of days since I was too lazy to park and unhook the trailer after "recycling" the dodge carl referred to in his post. (engines don't last very long with water and steam coming out of the tail pipe.) since I had the tires rebalanced, the rambleall is nicer to drive than it ever has been. The improperly balanced tires caused a nasty vibration at freeway speeds. Last Saturday while cruising down to the truck show, I looked at the speedo and was moving at a very comfortable 70mph with the beast wanting to go faster.

The other 80 that I sold to the fellow I brought to the meeting in June, iirc, is almost back on the road. Being retired, he has all kinds of time to work on it. Found out it had two different diff ratios: 3.73 and 4.27. Made for an interesting experience when he tried to move it in 4wd. Fortunately, carl had an axle here with the another set of 4.27 gears in it. The plan is to see the rig at September's meeting. :yesnod:

Well, it's Saturday evening and I didn't get any time to even look at any of the projects in the garage. But I did spend most of the day behind the stihl and the kubota cleaning up many of the trees around here. And I did purchase a couple of tanks to complete my cutting torch setup. It's about damn time I got something hotter than propane or mapp in the shop!!!

A few of my friends are out fishing buoy 10 today. They offered me a seat but even if I could have gone I don't think I would have. Buoy 10 is a place of desperation. But I hope they did well. Chinook is probably done now and they might have upped the limit on silvers.
