Storm Watch 2008...

snow at my house this afternoon
hpim1439.jpg

Wow! Its muddy and raining here in canby. Looks like you inherited a trailer. Nice!

I loaded the family and the dog in uber Scout and headed up above scotts mills today. It was pretty tame but I did get to pull 3 kids in an extra cab ranger out of the ditch on the way down. David, my 5year old thought I was pretty cool...:winky: the kids and the dog had a blast. Here are a few pictures.

I did some lite wheeling on bald mountain. No pictures though, my camera doesn't take good pictures at night in blizzards. I also spent a day defrosting water pipes. I live in a 130 year old house, I guess insulation was optional back then.:icon_eek: I also found out the e-brake on my commuter car works great in empty parking lots.:dita:

Accumulated 6 inches of snow here last night, and it is currently 31. Hopefully it stays at this temp or goes lower!:nono: gonna go wheelin and Dad will probably go with me as my friend was in florence last night and is supposed to be here pretty soon. Well, I doubt it with these conditions.

It's 28 degrees here and it has been snowing all day. Must be 4+ inches on the ground and it's still coming. Sounds like this afternoon will get a bit interesting, what with all the ice they are focasting for tonight/tomorrow. I'll post up some pics later when I feel like venturing outside.

I will be headed off to work in a few minutes. I don't want to hear about any of you over the radio, unless it's a report of some large farm equipment pulling new suv's out of the ditches. For those of you that have to drive stay safe and be cautious, a week of this has shown me people are morons!!

Kathy just took this pic with her crackberrycam, this is the parking lot here at la casa de agua.

Gotta keep tha beach clear for the turistas.

Here are the pics from today. Snow measures 5-6" deep. Supposed to turn to freezing rain at midnight and rain by 5am. What a mess that will make.

Just returned from a walk. It's still snowing and 25 degrees with a slight wind. Now we have almost 8" of the white stuff. The all knowing weather forcaster are now saying the freezing rain won't appear until tomorrow, but the temp is supposed to be below freezing all day.

Attached is a pic of my flatbed trailer with the snow almost up to be bottom of the front bump rail.

A few more pictures from today. I headed up to the ihcs to pick up Dad. This is what I found when I reached my Scout in the morning.

The entire Scout was covered with a 1/4 to 1/2" of ice. Once I chiped my way in I headed up to get Dad.
Here is one of the rigs at ihcs..

Once I picked up Dad we drove up to the ihcs upper storage farm. He wanted to check in on his cousins. They had been without power since late lastnight. I wanted to drive in the snow and ice....:winky: this is what we forund after we drove around the road closed signs...:dita:

I had trown in the chainsaw hoping for this...
once we arrived at the upper farm. We found things to be in pretty good shape. We left a propane heater and a phone and a little bs then we were on our way. I took this picture of 2 of my travelalls. I call it "snow falling on binders"....:dita:

I knew I left my Travelall parked somewhere!

it seems odd to me that you guys are getting hit harder over there than we are. It's been darn cold here, but not much in the snow department until last night. I got in from work around 1:am Sunday morning, and it was just starting to fall. There was hardly a trace of the couple of inches we got last week when it started. Then 7 hours later, I peek outside to see this:

I started shoveling a bit and then my wife found my phone so I could snap these picts:

I had already swept off the van, for it was covered all over in a nice layer of this dry snow. The drift building up there was about a 12" deep! And it was a good 6" over the whole driveway (or at least where we had to drive to/from the road). :icon_eh:

After doing some Christmas shopping tonight on the sloppy roads, the wife started asking about 4wd's again. I know she'd go for a Travelall like the one above, I just have to find a good one to start with. She's not the "wait-5-years-til-it's-done-so-you-can-drive-it" type.

I braved the conditions and went to work today. For those not up on there oregon geography there is a small set of hills between newberg and hillsboro known as the chehalem mountians. The high point on the hwy 219 drive is 1272 ft. (for reference hwy 6 to the coast is 1586 ft). So there was a 'touch' more snow up there....

At times I was busting through drifts and the berm in the road with my lil' dodge neon - the snow would fly over the hood, it was awesome!!

I was the 4th car over the mountain today -- I am sure of that since I watched the 1st guy cuttting the downed trees out of the road with a chainsaw in front of all of us. So needless to say there has not been a plow down 219 in days.

I will probably not be going home that way - I May have to take the much longer route around the mountain.

Cut this off of my fathers-in-law house this morning....

The ice brought it down lastnight. It is now snowing like crazy. I'm looking for any excuse I can to go for a drive....:winky:

I always thought that this oak tree on a back road by my house was so cool and very pretty. It looked extra pretty today with all the snow on it!
