Hey all. So I pick up my 76 Scout in a month. I like to have a plan before I begin any project. I realize you can't always stick to the plan, but having some sort of direction sure makes life easier. As far as I can tell she is pretty much stock. 345, 727, Dana 44's and a Dana 20. The only changes I noticed were a 4" triangle spring lift, 33" tires, and a different carb. I did not get the model number on the carb but it is a Holley that is supposed to work when on steep angles. As far as I could tell there was no body rot. I will be driving 70% on the road and 30% off. I am looking to fix safety issues first then move to upgrades. When I drove it the only bad thing I noticed was a lot of slop in the steering. I know a little of this is normal but I had 6" to either side on the full size steering wheel. This is my rough list so far in order of what I think is most important.
Steering
-tie rod ends
-drag link
-spring bushings
-body bushings
-then adjust steering box
roll cage (looking for a custom one, 6pt full cage w/ connections for 3pt seat belt and ability to mount safari rack on it)
remote starter solenoid
bonded ground system
ignition upgrade
-dui distributor
-msd 6a ignition box
-mds blaster ss coil
-autolite 85 plugs
-plug wires (not sure which is best yet)
dual battery setup
kwikwire rewire kit
SOA with reverse shackles(my understanding is this will smooth out the ride and still be street/family safe and allow me to do some decent crawling)
spray in bedliner (doesn't have interior and it is noisy)
like I said this is my rough starting list. Looking at this does anyone see any glaring errors or things I should add that are common wear items (like the body bushings). Also if someone at ihon could send me a quote for the parts I need for the steering I would like to fix that right after I pick up my new rig.
Thanks for any help
the new guy
