Starter engages the fly so times

Roughing it

Member
Ibe been having an issue with my starter/ flywheel. Ive inspected all the teeth in the fly non look chiped enough to miss this oftan. Ay ideads

Pull the solenoid and make sure the bendix slides smoothly on the motor shaft. These are spring loaded, so if they stick the motor spins without the gear engaging the flywheel.

I have done this. And still. I can hear it trying to grab. But doesn't quite grab. After maybe 6 attempt sometimes it starts right up. Maybe wrong. Solenoid :mad5:

Well then the next problem is a bad 1 way clutch on the bendix (in the small gear on the starter). You might as well just put in a rebuilt starter.

Might help us to know just what it is you're dealing with. Year/make/model/engine/transmission/major modifications etc.

Ur right. Heh sorry was vauge. I have a Scout 80 62 edition havent done much to it. As far as major mods. 3 speed manual cluch is hydro 152 ci. Msd

Okay thanks. Just want to make sure it wasn't a situation of swapped/mismatched parts. I think chappie has you on the right track.
