Hey guys, I just got my baby running like a champ. She now purs doing 70 on the freeway with lots of pedal left. Now my speedo is 10 mph off, how can I adjust this so I dont get flashed by photo radar. Any help would be appreicated.

A few ways to deal with it.

My first choice (and how I do it)would be to ignore the error and drive 10% slower by your speedo than posted.

Depending on transmission get a speedometer drive gear/driven gear to correct the error. Requires disassembly of trans. Usually tail shaft housing.

Buy a speedometer correction device that changes the ratio. A small gear box that screws on to your existing trans or speedo. Your cable then attach's to it.

Install an electronic speedo and pickup that has the adjust-ability for various drive ratios.

Since im broke I will just keep the error in mind, then later on when I rewire my truck I will add in and electronic speedo

You will need to change the ratio in your adapter. Or change your ratio adapter. (the small gear box that your cable is attached to.) at the transfer case.

With electronic speedometers it has become a lost art to do. We used to built 2-3 a month. And I bet I haven't done one in 5 years.

You can use a gps from now on. Or use a gps to 60 mph. Then find out how far you speedo is off. Figure the % difference. Then have your adapter changed by that much or get an adapter that ratio.

If you can find a good local truck parts store. And sweet talk one of the old guys to do it. If they are like me I have run out of most of the old stuff with no plans to re-order.

The math formulas to calculate a "revised" adpater ratio are on page 2 of the instruments section in my IH 72 - 73 t/a pickup service manual.

I assume this info might even be in the Scout service manuals.

Does anyone know if they make a speedo like a gps just without the gps? I know it sounds dumb lol

Sure, you gota go buy a hand held gps and cover up the navigation data. Some have screens that only display speed altitude and heading only. There is always a small delay with gps devices.
