Solo hardtop removal using your head

I used to get it the back and kind of lift with the hardtop on my back, turn 90 degrees and slide it off sideways. If I actually cared about the paint that method wouldn't be the best way to do it.

Here's my new technique.

First, obviously remove the bolts, unplug the wires for the dome light and put some 2x4s across the bed rails.

You'll need four ratchet straps and some pulleys, I have a block and tackle, makes it easier to lift.

Lift away, just make sure you have something substantial enough to tie the rope to. Don't tie it to the bumper because you have to move the Scout after the lift.

Then simply drive your Scout out of the way and set the top on the ground, dolly or sawhorses.
I intend to build some sort of cart thingy so I can stand it up and wheel it around. Plans are still in my head for now though.

So I made the dolly and 2x4's fit together so you can slide the dolly up to the 2x4's while it's sitting on 4x4's, meaning no heavy lifting to get this on the dolly. Well, except for lifting it upright.

The dolly has a 2x cut to the profile of the rain gutter so the gutter sits on it evenly, it also has some rubber strips glued to it so it doesn't scratch the paint, when it has nice paint that I don't want scratched.
