Slick Rock in Augist

So what does every one think about switching to camping at utica ? Its ben along time since I have ben up there . So im not real familar with the area .

My plan is to camp on slickrock by the bridge crossing past utica.
Got some buddy's from work that are coming along and that is a great camping area. By the creek, just down the road from the lake, and good fishing.

Mike your talking the one-lane wood bridge?

The one by the lake will have people camped there for sure.

Randy I have a big weber, round grill. Never taken it along before. Would need to figure that part out. What do you plan on cooking?

You can reach the n6icw repeater up there. Or use the national simplex frequency 146.520

I was going to cook up some spare ribs and I need a big weber. I understand the forest is on fire in that area at this time and 4 is being closed intermittently. Any status updates?

Mike, where do you plan on parking the tow rig?

Are we going in from the south or from the north?

Craig, let me know asap if you're going to be able to bring that weber. I'll probably get out of the bay area around 1:00 pm. I'm bringing plenty of firewood for two nights. I'll be waiting for Mike where the road forks to slick rock trail. We'll probably leave our tow rigs there if it looks good. If my memory is ok, that's where we left them last time.

I'll make room for a big bbq, I can bring some charcoal too. I have not had time to do anything. Been coming in early and leaving late to finish a project that's due tomorrow:eek6:

Enter at spicer meadow road. You will need to make a left onto a gravel road to get to utica res.

Follow the road pass the res, you will see a wide spot where trailers are parked, then just a 1/4 mile so down the trail to the bridge where the camp site will be.

Man it sure looks like there's gonna be a decent turn out. And I haven't been able to get my Scout road worthy. :( I have been pre-occupied with working on a side job on the weekends here in my man cave, the last couple of weeks. Along with worken some over time today.

Unfortunately, I didn't take single picture but for most of us, the trip was great. This was probably the best weather I've ever camped in. It was never too hot and the evenings were barely cool. Mike, myself, Craig and his wife, eric and gavin ran the trail almost all the way, south to north sat. We turned around before lake alpine because I was worried about getting the ribs on the bbq. The ribs were great.

The carnage. Well one person, Joe, had enough for 10 rigs on the rubicon in a entire weekend. He'll have to tell you about it because it was so extensive I don't even know how to describe it. He was able to get his rig off the trail and onto a trailer and was bringing it home on Sunday.

Met a couple of guys from the area, I can't remember their names, that were a great help to Joe. I think it might be Mike and walt? Two other guys, gabe and his brother were in jeeps and elrod spotted them through a couple of obstacles to help they understand just what 4x4 meant. The had a blast and no carnage. Gabes brother took a shot of shrapnel when part of Joe's nightmare was still in full effect that took him off his feet. He's fine but it could have been different if it wasn't a shot to the chest.

Hope to hear from others soon.

It was great weather for sure. The clouds keep the sun at bay during the day and keep the temps up at night. Light rain the first night helped me sleep like a baby too.

This was the wife's first 4x4 trip. She been camping a lot, but never ready liked the bouncing over rocks stuff. She had a great time, and she got 200 pages of her book read.

The trail is a lot rougher then I remembered too.

Glad Joe got his Jeep home, but it was just one thing after another that went south. I think he must have saved up a lot of trail carnage points to earn such a trip.
He broke his first axle around 9pm. The second about 11 or midnight. But this was not the end of it. In the end elrod was able to pull the 3 wheeled Jeep off to the side of the trail so we could get some sleep that was about 2 am.
It was late sat by the time Joe was able to get it rolling on all fours and off the trail.

No pic here either, forgot the camera

Man, that really sucks....

Sorry to hear about that Joe.

Glad you made it out ok.

Edit: I was in tahoe for the last 12 days.... I did the disable sports rubicon run 8-9/11, then camping with the family. In the future, if any babs guys have problems up highway 4 & need a place to store a rig for a few days, you can alway store it at my cabin (technically my folks place). You guys should have my number.
