slave cylinder mount

My slave cylinder mount was questionable in my mind, so I bought another one from ihon. I can't tell if it's right. The old one was flat, the new one is bent. Is it supposed to be? I was trying to line everything up (my bellhousing is out of the vehicle) and I don't see how the new one could work. Can someone say for sure?

In the pics, my old one is on the left, the one from ihon (with complementary junked slave cylinder!) is on the right.

Flat is correct and the bent one can easily be straightened. I had to tweek my slave bracket to improve alignment from the flat state. Just a little twist

Thanks for the help. Woulda been nice for Jeff to tell me when I'm buying damaged stuff. :icon_eh: I haven't seen one of these vehicles that's all right before so I can't tell. I bought the "new" one because I didn't trust the one I had.

Just so the record is set strait. Jeff would not have sent you a known bent part and had he known he woulda told you. Just like you stated not many of these 40+ year old scouts are really correct and Jeff is no different. Any one who has gone through one of these old IH's during a restoration or what ever can tell you that they struggle to fined parts that are original.

I do know that most of the slave brackets have been hacked and drilled and to find one that is only tweaked is a good find.

If you still feel like the deal is wrong call Jeff in the morning.

Yeah, I know he wouldn't knowingly sell me busted stuff.

I tried to flatten it out tonight. First I tried just crushing it flat in a big vice, but it was a little too tough. I next tried hammering it flat, but it ended up cracking. Maybe that's to be expected with such old metal.

I e-mailed Jeff, hopefully he can find one that is still flat.

I pulled this part off of a bell housing that was sitting with the rest of my used parts and didn't realize it wasn't supposed to be bent. Seeing that I have only had one Scout 80 in our shop in the past 5 years I am not as familiar with every last part on a Scout 80. I guess it would have been easier to tell you that I didn't have what you needed just like the nos throwout bearing and collar that I sent you that you did nothing but complain about. I am deducting $20 from your current order. After this please find another vendor to purchase your parts from as I do not appreciate it when a customer bad mouths my business instead of simply picking up the phone and asking about a potential problem.

I have n=5 of the s80 slave mounts...all are tweeked and scruud and botched to various degrees. That is exactly why I'm working up a much more robust replacement system for those that want to retain the slave in the oem position. But that is a low priority item right now.

There is no doubt that all these mounts have been tweeked in the past in an attempt to improve the geometry of the throwout system...it's pretty obvious when you see how others attempt the workround using a hammer or pipe wrench for bending into alignment, then breaking 'em off and re-welding in an even more dumazz/bizzare fashion. But by then they have already broken off the pivot inside the bellhousing casting rendering it scrap.

Only one of 'em is anywhere close to being "right" and it is my sample template (after being straightened).
