signal/hazard

Im having problems with my turn signals on my 77 Scout 2.....my signals do not work, when I turn left or right with the signal they do not come on unless I have the hazard switch engaged, and then when it is engaged and I put either the left or right on both of the hazard lights come on instead of the side signal that I have switched on.... Any suggestions????

Hazard or 4-way flasher mode when engaged overrides the turns signals whether they are functional or not. This is by design. Think of them as two separate systems that operate the same lights. Each has its own fuse flasher. One fuse flasher is housed in the fuse panel under the dash. The other is in a more hidden location, way up under the dash behind the oil/temp cluster. When you engage the 4-ways, all 4 exterior signal lights should flash in unison, along with both indicator lights in the dash.
So let's get more specific with what is working with respect to your blinkers. Do the dash indicators flash when the 4-ways are engaged? Do all four exterior lights flash in this mode? Does the left indicator come on solid when you flip the ts lever left? Same thing to the right? How about the exterior lights on either side? Do your brake lights work? Please report back with the needed answers to these questions.
