Signal flasher slow.

My '75 Scout II has an curious issue this winter. When I use the turn signal, at first the lights won't flash. After several seconds it begins to blink and over the following seconds it begins to blink faster. Right and left seem to act the same and the emergency flasher works fine. All the bulbs work and are bright. What might be causing a slow flasher? I took a look at mine and it must be a sealed unit as I can't find a zerk anywhere on it. Thoughts on a quiet work night??

I would suspect the flasher for the ts is "on the blink". Oh that's a delicious pun, isn't it? Scout II's and perhaps other binders use one flasher for the hazards and one for the signals. One flasher is located in a holder just above the fuse block and the other flasher is located higher up behind the dash. You can either lay on the floor and reach up to get it or...remove the instrument panel, and then carefully remove the left-most gauge cluster (provide this is a normal us left-hand drive vehicle. That will allow you to simply reach your hand in through the empty gauge hole and grab the flasher. A quick swap of the two flashers (they are identical) should determine pretty quickly whether this is the issue or not.

No grease zerk on those shitball flashers lou! Ya need to drill a hole in the side of the can and pack it manually.

Ya shoulda spec'd the "greaseable" flasher when ya bought that rig! Those are lifetime if the maintenance schedule is followed. The sealed flashers are only rated for 25 years service...so you are well out of "warranty" coverage.

If ya just train yore left hand/wrist to flash, then ya don't need no stinkin' flasher and ya can toss it and save some weight.

Pack them manually?? I hadn't even considered that option Mike! I had been working on the idea of running two 12 volt feed wires from the battery for a total of 24 volts. That should double the flasher speed when I'm turning in temperatures less than 55deg. I May set up a third feed wire just in case I need to turn in below zero weather and need that 36 volt push. I should have known I had a warranty problem when I once had to circle the block 13 times because the damn flasher wouldn't shut off!

As far as waving my left hand out the window I'm apt to get shot for gang signs before I can finish the turn.

When ya wave yore arm out tha winder for a signal...it's 'possed ta have a pistol in it...yore fingers is useless...that's why we call ya "gunline" ain't it???

I thought you had onena them permanent hunting licenses for collectin' bounty on the ears of bangers and taggers??? Tagger ears bring $10 in orygone.

Have you checked the condition of the bulb sockets -- front and rear?

Probably not related, but I was surprised how "corroded" mine were.... Though, the t/a taillights are on "more of an angle" than sii.

Ok here we go a strange question. Can you seperate the tur signal, brake, hazzard lights to seperate bulbs.
Brakes on one bulb and the turnsignal and hazard lights on the other lights

here is my current configurataion
utility body with brake lights on top and on bottom, I would like the bottom to be the turn and hazad lights and the top to be the brake lights. Is this possible?

Yes that is easily done. At the brake switch find the wire that only has power when the pedal is depressed. Disconnect and insulate that wire and connect a new wire to the switch. Run that new wire to the lights you want as brake only. Disconnect and insulate the old brake/turn wires and connect your new brake only wire.
