How to make double front jeans on the cheap!

Disclaimer: if you value your time, then this wouldn't be considered cheap!:cornut: if you're like me and enjoy to make things of your own then follow along....

Since most of us, if not all have some jeans that are all torn up in the front, I have found a use for them. Besides looking like you were working really hard!:icon_wink:

I've found with my jeans that the back of the legs was almost hole and ingrained dirt free, so I cut out as much material as I could save. For my base pair of jeans I am using a $10 usa pair that I tore the knee and successfully patched.
After you have cut the backs of the legs of the torn jeans, lay the material onto the front of your base pair.
Once you've got the jist of the pattern, double stitch the bottom of the double front making sure to have 1/2" excess material folded under for a clean strong edge.
Begin pinning the material onto your jean legs making sure to fold over the edge and leave about 1/2" on the outer straight seam. Pin this right to the edge of the current seam of the jeans.
Pin the material onto the other inner side of the leg folding under all of the excess material.
Once you are done pinning, heat up the iron and iron all the edges, creating somewhat of an edge/seam.
Unpin the inner edge and trim away the excess fabric so you just have about 1/2" excess.
Pin it back up and begin sewing.
The sewing is a b!$#@ as you have to scrunch up the pants and slowly move your way around making sure not to sew over anything....:yikes:
bar-tack all corners for added strength.

Ta da! There are your "new" double front jeans made from 2 pairs of older jeans! The torn up one was getting tossed, so at least part of it was recycled. Whew that was a lot of typing!:icon_rotate:

I made the double front extra long, as I always think the double fronts you buy are too short. Tried them out at work today and they are great. Yeah, I'm a guy and I know how to sew! :dita:

Mikee, that's pretty frikk'in amazing!
You must be the only guy I know, besides myself, that even considers sew'in his own.
I kinda like the "western" cut to them chaps:gringrin:

That is a great talent to have.

:icon_idea: I'll bet Jeff could start a IH upholstery division and u'd be his first employee. Or better yet IH custom outer wear.

O-yeah I liked your use of the word scrunch

I'll have Jeff get you a sewing machine instead of a tool box.... But, I do have the pattern for the Scout II shelter tent, found in your Scout II accessory guide. I've been toying with re-introducing them. Not as cool as your jeans....

Mikee majored in home ec and baseball in h.s. That gives him the appropriate life skills. He does ok in stackin' firewood too.

But the real test comes when he first attempts bakalava, if he can't follow norma's instructions perfectly, she'll kick hiz azz far more effectively than Darren can.

I hear that red bakalava is soon to be added to the online store??? But ya gotta first purchase a permit to possess and renew it every year.

And mikee will be the new "on-site" child care attendant, he needs the Ismail kidz ta teach him a thang or two about livin' on hiz own! I'm pretty certain he's safe ta have arount the kidz...he done ok here with tha dawgs so far but he sukked 'em in by sharin' hiz bananas and gorp!

Sorry, tool box would be a preference over a sewing machine!:cornut:

well, I could definitely make the Scout 2 tent, but there is no way I could even think about mass producing them! :icon_xd:

and mayben, you crack me up par usual....

oh, and for the next item, I made a backpacking backpack when I was 14. Outgrew my old one and couldn't find anything that I liked. So I bought an external frame on ebay and it went from there. Made my own pattern and bought all 1000 denier nylon and #10 ykk zippers. The ladies at the fabric shop found me quite amusing as I kept coming back for more stuff. They were blown away when I showed up a month later with the finished product. I got a picture on the wall of their shop for it!:ihih:
