Seat Bases

Hello,

I think I got a strange question here.

I have installed some aftermarket seats from a pt cruiser which bolt directly to the stock seat bases with no modifications.

What I was wondering is, does anyone make a shorter in height stock seat base? Right now I sit really high and would like to be sit lower maybe a couple inches.

Thanks,
bill

I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. This confirms a suspicion I've had about non-stock seats. I think the stock seat cushions are either deceptively thin, or they were must softer than newer seats, so the user sunk down into them. All the aftermarket seats I've looked at (bestop, corbeau, even mastercraft) have much firmer cushioning.

You can try cutting a couple of inches off the tops of the seat bases and re-fabricating the flange/mounting surface. This is what I plan to do when I eventually get newer seats for my Scout.

Thanks for the reply patrick. Thats what I was afraid of. Well, I guess I can try to cut the bases down when I take the seats off to get them reupholstered here in the near future.

in stead of cutting the top cut an inch or so from the middle so u dont mess with the flanges.

Problem with that is, the base tapers---it has that rake at the front and rear. It'd look extremely funky if you just 'sectioned' it. And you don't want to cut anything off the bottom because you'd loose that opening at the rear, and with it the small storage compartment under the seats.

I put a set of Ford expedition seats in mine on the stock slide rails and they set a bit lower than my stock ones on the original bases. The slides bolt right onto the bottom of the seat like they were made for the vehicle. Did you put your slides on or use the ones from the seats you just put in?

That's interesting. I sure wouldn't want to be sitting any higher than I do in my aged stock buckets. Well, in a couple of months, when most of the auto manufacturers say "f*** it!, everybody, take these damned cars and trucks! They're yours. We afford to can't store 'em any more!", we'll have lots of new seats to experiment with for next to nothing.
