ScoutII hardtop side lowers

Great question. I know where I could get a top for dirt cheap that is in otherwise good shape aside from the most rotten bottom rails you could ever imagine. I'm anxious for the answer to this one also.

Jeff May have some insider information regarding this subject.

Scout light line does have many new items in the mill, including additional sheetmetal, but I'm not privy to the current status.

I know this kind of deal seems fairly simple for light line to simply make it happen. But...the tooling they acquired from ihc way back in the 80's was in pretty poor condition, and the condition and storage of the tooling before they received it resulted in some major issues in order to restore to a serviceable state to allow re-starting production of sheetmetal-related goods. Restoration of just the dies for the body panels is extraordinarily expensive!

Light line is definitely committed to increasing the product offerings for this stuff, that is especially challenging under the current economic/business conditions that exist in this country.

I know this an older post, ran across it searching, but howethorne makes 1" sheet strips that are rounded on one side for repairing the bottom edge of the side of the hardtop. And Super Scout Specialists have what appears to be the bottom panel of the hard top in both right and left sides (the panel that bolts to the quarter panel tops), but would call them to verify that it is the actual piece. Hope this helps someone searching for such pieces.

Are you talking about the side piece, as in from roof top to bottom edge? If so, you are gonna have to have a metal guy fab it up. A cheaper option would be to just find a top in better condition-try craigslist in your area.

On my new top, which is rusting again only 12 years after being repaired stripped and painted, there were was a section that needed replacement near the fuel filler. The body shop guy had me cut a section out of the old top and that was used as a patch panel for the new top. When I got the new top back you couldn't tell where the repair was done, even from the inside.

When I had my driver Scout II redone (body & paint), the body guy noted that the reason for the rust in the lower edge of the top was due to water leaking down from the gutter seam. The original factory body seam sealant in the gutter had shrunk, allowing water to enter. It was somewhat of a chore to locate the best 3m product for the job, but he eventually found it and used it in that application.
