Scout rear Dana 44

The inner seal was omitted in iirc the mid '70's. This also removed the regular scheduled greasing of the rear wheel bearings since they are now lubricated by the gear oil.
 
No, just be sure you're using the newer outer seal. Although I'm not really sure if they were even changed when the inner seals were removed.
 
If you leave the seals out be sure to clean the axle tubes! We did this on my Dad's '73. You wouldn't believe the dirt that was in there!
