Scout literate mechanic in SF?

Hi all, I'm the proud new owner of a 77 Scout 2 (non-turbo diesel). Does anyone know of a sound shop or person, within san francisco, that speaks Scout? I've had nothing but bad luck with the shops round here.

I'd like to take it to IH north but I'm worried about my mildly sketchy drivetrain.

Thanks for responding, I'm worried about the drivetrain. It's not leaking, only some oily residue but a friend warned me of driving on the freeway with a sketchy drivetrain. Fuel also rapidly backs up when I'm attempting to refuel, I can only get a half gallon in. Mostly I'm just looking to find someone who knows scouts and can give some comforting restoration advice. Thanks for your thoughts, ellie

It's usually when things aren't leaking that you have to worry. :smile5: seriously. I haven't seen an IH that doesn't at least seep a little oil. As far as the fueling problem, I have the same issue. I have just learned that it will take me a while to fill up at the gas station. It's probably due to a venting problem.
 
Try this for your fueling issue:
once you put the nozzle in the filler pipe, turn the nozzle upside down so that the hose is above the handle. It works for me, I don't know why.

Thanks guys, I cleaned a clog in the vent tube, seems a little better. I'll try the nifty upside-down trick
 
Same problem here with venting-
it takes some time to get used to filling the trucks up. After toying with mine a few tanks after buying I found that I have to hold the trigger and keep the filler tip just barley inside the filler hole. Im in livermore and am building a 79 right now in my shop. All the guys on this site have more info than one can absorb. Post some pics! Would love to see your ride.
