I pulled the pinion from my 76 scoutii d44 front axle (original to vehicle). There was no thrust washer between the yoke and the outer pinion bearing. Should there be one there? The d44 diagram I found shows there to be one..

There's a washer between the flange (yoke) and the retaining nut, but I don't see one between the outer bearing and lip seal if that's what you're asking. There are two sets of shim packs (locating and pre-load) on the pinion shaft near the bearings.

Thanks trever. All the shims and other washers are right where they were supposed to be. Just no thrust washer. Doesn't even look like it's ever been in before, no wrench scarring on any nuts or bolts.. Gonna try and set up my r&p on my own this time.. Got all the tools, read several manuals and write-ups, got my IHPA parts and stocked up on the whiskey. Hopefully I'll find a good pattern before the bottles run out!..
