Scout 800 charging problem

Here's the problem, while driving home last night, the old Scout started acting like it was running out of gas, then it stopped, and wouldn't start up again (got the typical clicking noise associated with a dead battery) pushed it into a gas station, made sure tank was full, then got a jump start.....idled fine for a few minutes, so I got in, turned on the lights, and started back down the road, got about a mile down the road and it all happened again...repeated the whole process again, long story short, the truck runs and idles fine, until I turn the lights on, then within a minute or so, the headlights dim, the fuel pump starts to sputter, and the truck dies...I pulled the alternator off and had it tested, and it is charging fine, checked all of the connections, and they all seem to be fine....what the hell is going on here? Voltage regulator? Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks

You need to verify that the alternator is charging in the Scout.
Running the voltage at the battery needs to be 13.8-14.5. Usually though when things fail it ends up at 12 and lower.
On the 800 you should have a amp meter. Did that show the needle pointing to the "d"?

The old relay type of voltage regulators can be adjusted. Tricky if you are not familiar with them, but very doable. That could be the issue but I hate throwing parts at problems unless it is verified.
Check all of the wiring on the back of the alternator and then where they terminate at the other end. See the attached schematic of the 800

Thank you Robert, I cleaned up all the contacts as you suggested, put the battery on the charger overnight, started it up the next morning, ran with the lights on for about 20 minutes, no issues, mystery problems has gone away (for now) again, thanks for the help - troy
