Scout 800 2wd brake questions

I have a 1966 Scout 800 lhd 2wd with a 196/t18 and currently has the 4 lug axles. I have scored some 5 on 4.5" axles off a 2wd 800a. The front is minus one hub and drum. I have also scored (but do not yet have in my possession) a rhd front axle with all of the hubs and drums. My microfiche does not include the 5 lug 2wd, only the 4 lug 2wd as it only goes to about 1968 so I can't look up part numbers for these 5 lug axles. Fyi the 4 lug setups are identical from 1961-1968, when it appears they were discontinued.

I am trying to decide if I am going to wait for the other axle to find out if the drums are ok, buy some new drums if I can find them, or just go disc. I would likely have to have a caliper bracket made, or measure the stud pattern and see if a maverick/comet conversion kit or something like that could work.

I have one drum in my hands, a 9" x 2" 5 on 4.5" and it has a kh# that looks like 8278 or b278. It might not be either of those. The numbers do not cross to anything afaik. Does anyone either have the correct kh# or know of a drum that crosses? As I said, without the drums at this point the parts add up to less than 2 calipers, 2 rotors, 2 hoses but no brackets. I May be able to redrill a sii caliper bracket as the backing plate bolt pattern is tiny.

On the other hand, does anyone know of a disc conversion done to a 2wd 800 using the stock beam axle? At this point, please do not suggest a subframe setup as it isn't going to happen on this truck, ever.

On the "other" other hand, what's the feasibility of narrowing a 2wd sii tube axle to Scout 800 width and using that? Can you just remove one 'c', chop off some tube, reweld the c, change the perches, and plumb with what's appropriate?
