Can anyone tell me for sure how long the front parking brake cable is supposed to be for a Scout 80?
I'm losing my mind here or something. When I got my 65 s80, the parking brake was all messed up and kinked and the previous owner had apparently routed it by attaching it to the frame with bailing wire.
So I bought another cable from Scout connection and it seems to me that it's just way too long (though identical to what I had). I come out from the firewall and loop back to the crossmember, and there's like 1 or 2 feet more than is really needed, unless I'm really missing something about the routing. Doing some research, it seems that the 800 cables might be longer, but I'm not sure. I told Scout connection that I thought I had the wrong cable, and they eventually sent me another one that they claim is the same length as from an 80 they have, and it's the exact same length (with different ends, oddly).
So now I'm totally confused. These cables are long enough that I think I could loop them around the engine mount and still make it back to the crossmember.
So, if someone could say for certain what the length should be, that would be great. Failing that, maybe there is some routing trick that I'm missing? The manual seems to indicate that it just loops back with an attachment at the bottom of the firewall and that's it, but maybe there's something else about it.
