scout 2 top wont fit on my scout 2!!!

Something isnt right here, I have a 77 and a 72 Scout 2. I took the top off the 77 and put it on the 72 but it just isnt lining up like its supposed to and it fit fine on the 77. The 72 has a full 6 piont cage but its clearing all around. The top lines up perfectly on the tailgate but it needs to come forward a whole inch before the 4 screws can go into the windsheild frame. Has anyone had this probelm?
 
The windshield frame on your '72 is likely adjusted too far forward. There should be an adjustment bolt on either side up under a cutout in the a-pillar above the top door hinge.
 
It doesnt look like I can adjust it back any beacuse the top of the windsheild frame is already almost touching the vent window frame on both doors. But towards the bottom there is almost half an inch between the windshild frame and vent window frame. And the adjusting screws are almost rusted away):
 
Hey beach Scout; your body mounts May be bad or at least sagging. It happens when you run scouts without a top.
I seem to have better luck if I attach to the window frame first, if that does not help try finding a place to put a jack on the body toward the rear of the truck, leaving the top bolted to the windshield. Lifting the back May tweek your door pillars enough to get it bolted back up.
