RV 727 for scout

I have an opportunity to obtain on the cheap a tf727 out of a 78 motorhome with a 440. It has been described as in 'good working order' (ahem). Is there any benefit for installing a rv 727 in a Scout 2 over the standard unit IH installed? I'd have to swap out the output shaft and tail housing to make it 4wd, but what else?

Hmmmm. Looks like the tranny from the 440 has a diff bell/bolt pattern. Won't work on IH or cheby motor back sides. Maybe a parts swap out of all the guts?

Yeah, as you've just discovered, there are big time case differences between mopar, amc and ihc with regards to the tf 727 used in each application. Many, but not all of the internals are common. Unless there is some hard part inside your present trans that is damaged beyond repair (unlikely), it would be best to simply service your present unit and keep all hard parts intact as they are rather than embarking on a journey of hodge podge mixing and matching.
