Rough Country 4" lift, things to consider

Hey there, bit of a noob and need some insight on things to consider with the rc 4" lift. I've got a '79 Scout II with the stock suspension and it needs helps.

As I read through the threads and reviews, some questions come up,

1. Will I need to extend the brake lines?
2. The front axle May need to be turned to avoid negative caster, can this be accomplished with shims? I'm not ready to pull the front axle at this point. If necessary, I will do it at some point in the future.
3. Is there anything that needs to be done with the shackles? Btw, what's a reverse shackle?
4. For tires, I'd like to run 31's to 33's max, what can I expect in terms of net lift with this kit?
5. Will I need a new pitman arm?
6. Will the drivelines need to be lengthened?

The vehicle is primarily for light trail work. Any other major considerations?

Thanks.

Yes +4" brake hoses are needed.

4* shims and 3/8" center pins are what we normally recommend. Your driveshaft May bind up at full droop so some grinding on the yokes for clearance or offset u-joints will fix that.

3. Is there anything that needs to be done with the shackles? Btw, what's a reverse shackle?

If the holes in the shackles are oblong then it would be the time to replace. I would recommend replacing the frame spring bushings as well. The reverse shackle places the shackle at the rear of the springs and gives you a better ride. Fabrication skills required for installation.

4. For tires, I'd like to run 31's to 33's max, what can I expect in terms of net lift with this kit?

If you are running stock tires now then about 6" of roof height change should be expected with the larger tires.

5. Will I need a new pitman arm?

No.

6. Will the drivelines need to be lengthened?

They shouldn't in most instances. A reverse shackle requires a new front driveshaft with a longer travel slip yoke.

Make sure the rest of the drivetrain/suspension/steering is in good shape as the larger tires/lift put more stress on the components.

Thanks.

Hope this helps.

Thanks michael, that does help quite a bit.

I'm not ready to take on the fab work, the reverse shackles will have to wait (along with the axle work).

I was doing a little browsing last night on IHPA, looks like all I need is there. I'm just up the road in truckee, can I come down to Grass Valley to pick up an order and save on shipping?

Thanks again, john

I just checked and we do have one 4" Rough Country lift kit in stock. We are open from 7:30 to 4:30 Monday through Friday. Thanks.
