Replacement starter

I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. I am trying to get a new starter for my Scout. I have ordered 3 and everyone I have gotten the bendix gear is 1/4 inch longer than my original one. When I start Scout the bendix is staying in flywheel. The old one has a spacer and I have put that on new as well with no difference made still stay in. Has anyone experienced this. My next option is have old one rebuilt. Just seeing what other options is out there. I have ordered from autozone and oreilly auto.
 
Being that you have the 727 auto transmission, you need the spacer ring that gets sandwiched between starter and block.
 
I have used spacer. It still will not work. When I turn ignition engine start but starter keeps spinning.
