Renewed intrest

Hello Jeff:

this xtreame show has renewed my interest to convert over to a 700r trans. I have some questions that I am sure you will be able to educate me on.

1. What mods will be needed to change over, ie. Tunnel, trans mounting location,

2. Will any mods be needed on t-case, drive lines

3. What about the shiftier how will that work.

Maybe the show will go into that later but I guess I would like to determine everything I will need to do to make the swap.

Thanks
ramon

Ramon,

when installing the 700r4 no tunnel modifications are necessary. You will need to fabricate a new crossmember or one can be purchased from us. If you want to retain your factory Dana 20 transfer case(not advised) then an additional adapter will be required that we can supply from advance adapters. Drivelines will also need to be modified. You can either modify your factory shifter to work with the 700r4 or buy an aftermarket one from us(lokar or B&M).

Check out these threads that have had 700r4 installs -

Jeff thanks for the info.

I have been going over in my mind just exactly what I want to do. First off my sii wont be a dd but will be used often enough so that this type of upgrade would be beneficial. However I think maybe first I should start with drive train. Right now I have a 4" Skyjacker lift and everything else pretty much stock. I want to run 35's so can you tell me if I go rs with your kit will I need different drive lines. Also if I decided to go so would the 4" springs be to much lift?

I have a 79 Chevy, can thees axles be used or would I need an 80's model. I am thinking gearing would be minum of 4.10 or would you suggest different. Thanks for your responce.

If you go rs then you will definetely need a new long travel front driveshaft - long travel driveshaft - IH Parts America Scout

If you decide to go SOA I would find a stock set of springs as lifted springs on a SOA is a bit too tall in my opinion.

As long as your 79' front axle is a Dana 44 and not a gm10 bolt then you should be good to go.
