I'm going to do the remote starter installation described in this forum - I've been having what I think are "heat soak" problems with the starter not turning over at all when I try to start after the engine is hot, and I have a 4 ga battery cable just kind of slung over the engine/tranny tunnel, so I'm going to rewire with all 1 ga. A few questions:
ok, so I bought a remote starter solenoid – carquest had two – one for $14 and one for $21, both made by the same company, they look pretty much identical, so I bought the $14 one.
1. The local carquest only has pre-terminated 1 ga cable for the battery positive in a length near what I need at 78" - do you think this is too long/will cause voltage drop? They have a 66" length but due to the way my vacuum booster/etc is set up I'm not sure if this will be long enough to route it well.
2. The studs are 3/8 hole, but the solenoid screws are 5/16 – do you think this is a problem? I don't think it should be - with washers I feel like I'll get a solid metal/metal connection.
3. Currently, my b+ battery stud has a single “lead” of smaller wire coming out of it that’s being used. I assume I can just reroute these wires to the b+ side of the solenoid, or put a terminal block from the b+ side?
