Rear Differential

Hello,

I am looking for a rear differential for my Scout II 1975. I just purchased my Scout and need to get it to a point where I can roll it around so I can start working on it.

I am located in Austin, TX.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated!

Try calling IH parts during their business hours. They might have one for you. Depending on where you're located, shipping such a large and heavy item will be cost prohibitive. Checking Craigslist and Facebook market place in your locale may eventually bear fruit. Wrecking yards? If your Scout is a 4x4 model and you plan to use 4x4 at some point, then the axle gear ratios in both axles must match, ie 3.73 to 1 ratios front and rear for example. You don't want to be 3.07 in the front and 3.73 in the rear and then engage 4x4. That would cause damage. These are narrow width axles, so being yours is a '75, you're looking for a rear Dana 44 preferably from a '74 or later Scout II. Earlier than '74 may have narrower brake shoes and drums. That may not be a deal breaker in your case. But you don't want an axle out of an earlier Scout 800 model. It for sure needs to be from a Scout II.
