Hello, my first post here. I have a Scout II rear Dana 44 I'm using as a '44 upgrade to my Jeep. I hope I'm ok to post here
the unit came with no brakes. So I either convert to disk or try to buy all components for drums. The bom is 603162-6 which is a 71-73 with trac loc. I've looked and looked, and found all kinds of conversion kits from 400.00 - 700.00. I'm not ready to drop that kind money just to have rear disks. I already have front disk and think that will be enough. I'm interested what junkyard parts will bolt on, I understand that there might be some grinding or machining involved, which I'm fine with. Some of the info I've run into are 5-10 years old. I've read that cadillac eldorado calipers are good candidates, but seem to have trouble with 15" rims. I've already got 35" swampers on 15" rims.
My other option is go with drums and build it up from scratch. My search have only come up with the gold plated drums. For 150.00 a piece, I'll consider a disk conversion. I've also found drums for the earlier years that are cheaper, but don't indicate front or rear. Are they the same? Used junk yard parts are ok for me, but these parts are slim to come by.
I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer as far as if you have drums, backing plates for sale. Or junk yard solutions before I spend a few hundred on a disk kit. Thanks
