Im in process of rebuilding my 727. Ive installed the new steels and clutch discs. I noticed in the rear clutch you have the clutch drum, a piston with 2 seals. After that there is a round medal clutch plate with fingers on it that rides on the piston and the other side "susposily" rides against the clutch packs which puts pressure on them. Normally, when I removed the parts, there was a spacer ring and a wave snap ring that seperates the clutch plate from the discs. My question? If I remove the spacer ring and the wave snap ring at the pressure plate, and just use the snap ring at top of stack thats holds everything together. Will that work? My clearance at the top snap ring is around .030. It makes more sence to me if the pressure plate acted directly against the clutch plate/ disc, then being limited from movement using the wave snap ring and spacer at bottom of stack. With everything installed with new clutch and steels. I can only get a .014 feeler gauge in. Basicly, what is the absolulute minimum clearance the clutch packs can run without any problems?
