Rear axle

I have a 1970 Scout 800a that has Dana 44s from a Scout II (I dont know the ratio), and it seems like the right and left sides are "locked" together on rear axle. The p.o. Did some work to the differential, as I can tell by the new pinion yoke, and I hope he didn't weld the spider gears up.before I tear into this, is there any mal-funtion in the rear end that May cause this?
 
There could be, but its a total crap shoot until you remove the diff cover for a look inside. If you see something that you're not sure about, post a well lit and focused pic.
