Rear axle swap

I'm looking for a rear axle (junk yard) to swap in the rear of my Scout II. I was checking out the dodge dakota rear end. I didn't have a tape measure with me to check the width but it looked about right. I'm not familiar with these rear ends but it looked like a Dana rear end.
Any one have any info on these rear ends. Worth my time or not. Better options?

Well my carrier is shot (trash-lok). So I was looking to upgrade to a better carrier, gear ratio, and axle strentgh, while staying with the same width as the original d44. I believe the dakotas came with a 9 1/4 ring gear in the later years.
Plus with my reading here and the binder planet, most if not all of the d44's are bent.
