Re wire 74

I'm contemplating rewiring dash to fire wall. Using a toggle switch/push button ignition and running all the accessories in the cab off a 10 circuit fuse block mounted in or out of the cab.
Tail lights running lights and blinkers will stay oem.
Just wondering if I'm way out in left field or not.
Any input will help, thanks.

Thanks again.
You did a hell of a job with that. Looks like a modern ride now, and those dolphin gauges, awesome.

Bite the bullit and completely rewire the whole thing. I too, have a 74
Scout II, that I rewired a couple years ago. The 35 yr old oem wiring isn't
up to the task of upto date add ons. I found that out when I started
replacing the old gauges and headlights. My headlights started to flicker on
and of with the oem wiring. Jeff at IHOnly north also sells wiring kits.
Check out the online store or give him a call

I too would suggest properly re-wiring your Scout -- it's a lot of work, but well-worth it in the end. I recently re-wired my 1964 c1200. I used oem non-insulated crimp terminals, keeping the original plastic sockets/plugs & inserting the new terminals into them. I also used a minimal amount of solder in the crimp to keep the connection from oxidizing -- this is what creates additive voltage drop in old wiring harnesses. I spent months pecking away at this job. It is done now, everything works, even the high beam indicator! The wiring harness is a "kwik wire", available via several online sources.

I also have a 1974 Scout II. The wiring is currently very messy! I already have the dash out and all gauges exposed. My Scout does have electronic seats. I have time but rewiring scares me to death! However, I am thinking about the 22 circuit wiring kit. What else would go into the re-wire job? Would I need to remove the front and rear panels to get to the wires? I think I can do the entire re-wire job if I take my time! Any advice, knowledge would be greatly appreciated out there?!

Thanks,
don

Looks like a fire ready to happen brother

I know you can do a rewire it just takes time money and patience

my tips as your take stuff apart label it see what you can save.

In my rig the po had done a partial rewire and it was easier to just start over and do it right.

Count your amps for each light by amp draw 5 for stereo 15 for off road etc, then draw it all out

then run your wires yellow 5 amp stereo plus green for my off road lights etc

make a plan first just like any engineering project or building a shed

then follow your plan, and make updates to it as you change your plans or need

at the end you will have a documented rewire diagram like I do better then factory one ever was
