Jeff:

first I'd like to say "two (Nissan) diesel projects under way at the same time" very cool!!

Was there any discussion/thought about not running a muffler?
Is their someone who is rebuilding these engines that you would care to share with us?
Is that a vacuum servo on the fuel shut off? I've heard they can be problematic.

While you have stripped off parts from the n/a engine there still remains one great performance part left, that being the n/a intake manifold. It will match up nicely with your exhaust size and give a little more top end.

The single best mod you could do on this engine is the mb exhaust housing. If you were to do all these mods at once the first time Jamie drove it he would immediately stop the rig get out and double check the vin:icon_biggrin:. Don't get me wrong you will still spend time in the right lane on the long grades but on the flat he will be grinning hear to hear.:d

here are a couple pics, just food for thought

Re: Jamie's Diesel Scout II

Yes lots of diesel projects as of late. Soon enough there will be another diesel build posted that we are currently working on that will burn some veggie oil.

No discussion on not running a muffler. I certainly can see some potential in power gains but not sure how much louder the vehicle will be as noise levels are normally a concern on these diesel projects.

As for the engine rebuild it is a jesco engine.

The vacuum servo is being removed in favor of the original cable style fuel shut off.

I didn't know about the n/a intake had more flow. If the owner Jamie would like us to do this modification for him we'll certainly be glad to do it. As it is just going from a worn out n/a engine to a fresh turbo'd engine should be reason enough to grin ear to ear. However thanks for the pdf and picture as that certainly helps in describing the modification that you are recommending.

Re: Jamie's Diesel Scout II

This is late, but I ran my sd33t with out a muffler and it sounded great. Not too loud at all. Most of the sound gets surpressed by the turbo. But it sounded great and redused the heat build up. I also had the down pipe IH only sells and that also helped reduce the heat.
