Re: IH Parts America Fuel Systems Shop

Re: IH Only North Fuel Systems Shop

I am digging into the parts vehicle and finding out that I'd much rather have the 345/t19w in my driveable '77 rig. Since I'm ultimately working towards this goal, I am very interested in the carter tq rebuilding you've got listed above. After reading deep into Holley and their modular carb design principles, I would prefer to try and set one of these up in the distant future, but that would require a 'square' bore manifold, or a two-barrel manifold for a 345, depending on the carburetor - neither of which I have.

So since I am committed immediately to this thermoquad and the spreadbore intake it comes with, I have a question. What should I do with this carburetor while I wait on the day where I can ship it to oregon? Box it up? Seran wrap it to death? Leave it plugged into the manifold and under the air cleaner?

I still have to verify the motor isn't out of life, and seeing that my manifold lived with an open hole on the #8 runner, I'm scared of what cancer May be lurking in the dark. At least this one isn't my "prime mover" and I can break it down without worrying about buying a whole new gasket set and reassembling on a time schedule. But all that has to wait on an engine stand, and a cleared-out spot in the old milkbarn for some engine to sit.

Re: IH Only North Fuel Systems Shop

You are really gittin' into this stuff now man!

I looked at your latest pics ya posted of that thermoquad and all. Looks "typical" (while that is not a good thang, it's also notta bad thang!).

As for storing the tq ya have, it can't get any worse than it is now (not trying to be a smartazz!). I'd just put it in some padding and store securely inna box until the time comes when you wanna deal with it.

I'm having a hard time now getting some tq units whipped into shape for customers and to get some units in stock at ihon. Lottsa interest seems to be coming around regarding these mixers, maybe just because we talk about 'em alot?

I will say...for a "learning experience", a tq is not the unit ya wanna use! They can have all sorts of issues internally due to rot and neglect, and I got one right now that is killing me! Whereas...any Holley modular carb can be a great unit to learn carb service since virtually every part is available in some manner. That 2300 you snaked from us is a prime example of a great unit to learn on.

So since ya already have a spreadbore manifold, ya might consider using an adapter (squarebore carb to spreadbore manifold) and go with a Holley modular or an edelbrock. Onna Scout II ya can just fit an adapter between the carb and the intake FI ya go with a very low air cleaner. If ya have a 1"+ body lift, that opens up other possibilities!

What is a Holley modular carb (what models)
any carbs you recommend 345 four barrel with 2 inch body lift?
