question on Axle Id.

I found axle tags on the housing but the only legible numbers were the 4.09 on the bottom, can anyone possible id these by the pics?

Look to be Dana 44's to me, the front closed knuckle sucks, stay away from it. The tags just says that it had 4.09 gears.

I was wondering if I should keep it under the rig or not, I plan on keeping the unit for resto reasons but was unsure if it would be ok to run, I think they put that unit under the rig was it was used out in the desert for years....

Like rueben said they are Dana 44's. Brake parts May be hard to find as well as parts for the hydrualic steering assist that this Travelall came factory with. If its a true restoration then I would rebuild whats there but if you plan on making it a daily driver then I would swap out at least the front axle for another Dana 44 with open knuckle and discs and add a regular power steering system.

well the more me and my wife talk, the more we're thing of keepin this beast original as possible due to the rarity of it.
I was going to convert it into a snobus and haul people up to the slopes, make the medical cabnet into a bar with a plasma tv, but I see there just isn't to many of these around and it would be a shame to butcher it.

We'll wait to trick out the 73 Scout when we get it back from idaho.
