priming lifters

When I rebuilt my 304 several years ago, I followed the shop manual as closely as I could. Now, several years down the road when I am getting ready to try to start the engine, I read in various posts about priming the lifters. I didn't come across this idea in the service manual, though (since it is a confusing document) it May actually be covered.

Instead, I just reassembled the block and heads, and thought I was good to go. So now, am I in deep do-do? Do I have to go back in, pull out the lifters and prime them? Or, will the normal start-up procedure accomplish that for me. Thanks in advance. Pineneedle

Just use the oil priming method., spinning the oil pump w/drill an turning the motor over as you are turning the o.pump. Jeff ( or turn the motor over , prime, turn motor over, prime, repeat several times, watch oil gauge, get oil pressure up, then start it )
