pressure in the radiator

not getting coolant in my oil and no oil in the coolant. Checked the radiator with a block tester and shows no hydro carbon mixed wth the coolant. Do i have cracked head or head gasket on an intake gasket problem. Engine is a fresh overhaul and runs great other than the pressure problem.
 
Unfortunately your post is to vague to allow anyone to help you.

Please elaborate as to what pressure in the radiator is concerning you.

Why do you thing the pressure is an issue? All radiators create internal pressure when hot.
 
my engine is a 345 and can idle it long enough for the thermostat to open and will have pressure to foam the coolant and blow out the top. Can watch the bubbles in the coolant. Doesn't seem to be a problem but have never experienced that kind of pressure in any of my other motors.Have purged the coolant to eliminate trap air pockets.
 
What pressure rad cap are you using? Some are 7 some are 15/16 psi.

All coolant systems create pressure as the coolant heats up. Its physics.

Are you using water or a 50/50 mix of coolant?
 
Hey Early, haven't seen or heard from you in a long while. You still truck'in?

Foaming coolant can be bad anti freeze that's either way too old or contaminated; and maybe a really fouled or sludged system. Sometimes anti freeze types can be accidently mixed and boy that makes for problems. I bought a car where the former owner's boyfriend topped it off with DexCool when it still had some of the green stuff in it. What a mess that was to clean up.


Another could be air coming in through a leaky water pump seal. If you can, or by taking it to someone with a pressurizing tool, pressurize the system when cold. Use no more than 12-14 psi. Look for leaks while focusing on and around the water pump spit hole near the pulley shaft. A good UV light can help show up any leaking anti freeze.
 
Hey Greg thanks for the input. Whenever it quits raining i'll flush the radiator and head to Bi Mart for antifreeze. If that does'not make a difference will just run it.
Retired half a dozen years ago and now work l the fire season and the wine harvest. They get desperate and pay goes up.
 
Remember the block plugs and heater circuit. Lots of stuff can still be in those places.

Good to see you're gett'in along. I left work too some years ago. Now it's a project or two for hire and volunteer type work. I remember at the last Binder Bee you were thinking about it. Good Luck!
 
Dave, if you don't have one of those cheapo Prestone flush kits already tapped into one of your heater hoses, I can testify that they help the flushing process by allowing you to back flush pressurized water through the system. We should do lunch soon. Catch up on old times.
 
removed the heads and checked for cracks and found from the intake valve to the spark plug the problem. Next problem is finding heads that aren't cracked. Out of six heads only one is a keeper. Trip to Portland to find a shop that does the repair.
