Hey all,
I was wondering at the amount of gear oil additive that was required for a Dana 44 with a newly installed powerloc ? I would rather not damage it with to little as it is brand new and really don't want to add to much as it is kind of expensive.any thaughts ?

Did you get any instructions with your powerlok?

For reference: owner's manual for my t/a states 2/3 ounce of ls per pint of gear oil for a trac-lok.

Hmmm, there is a difference of opinion...

My IH t/a service manual states 1 ounce ls per pint of gear oil... As greg states below...

Ford's xl-3 additive is the best you can use. One 4 oz. Bottle should do it, a little extra don't hurt none. As Robert states, it's about an ounce per pint.
The pro's in the field use it, and it was recommended to me by them. I have used it on a couple of jobs and it's not expensive at all.
One caution, use nitrile gloves; the stuff is nasty and the smell won't wash off easily. It's not the thing to get on your hands before a fried chicken dinner!

Thank you for your replies.I know what you mean about the smell.I ordered it last week and the girlfriend took it from the ups man and set it on the floor next to the door. it took 3 days to clear the smell out of the house.so it sounds like a full 4 ounce bottle in with the rest of the 90 wt. Should do it.thank you,

I know this is way after the fact, but I thought I'd mention that redline's diff'l oil Comes with the ls additive already in there. There's no need to deal with that separate additive. I've had it in my Scout's powr-loc for over a year now and it works great, meaning great traction off-road, yet it never binds up or chirps when on-road. I'd say I'm much happier with it than I was with my old combo of mobil1 diff'l oil + the additive.
