Postal Scout carb question

I have restored a 67 postal Scout 800. It has a 152 with a borg warner model 8 automatic transmission. The carb was missing when I purchases it and a put a Holley 1904 like what I have on my other scouts with the 152 engine. The Scout lacks a lot of power on take off but does find after you get it going. The manual states I need a Holley 1904 with a dash pot. Is this a special 1904 carb and does anyone know where I can get one. Thanks.

I can't answer your carb question other than to say that if this carb would work well on an s80 with 152 and manual trans, it should deliver similar performance with the 152/bwa combo. Have you verified that your vacuum modulator is functioning? I know this component is critical for controlling shift points with the bwa unit. What do your shift points feel like? Does it seem like the trans has upshifted into direct drive too early? Is there much of a difference felt between hard acceleration versus normal?

The transmission was rebuilt and a nos modulator valve was installed. It shifts smooth and seem to shift when it should. The lack of power is on takeoff before it shifts into second gear. Once it gets going it does ok but nothing to brag about. Thanks.

Okay. I'm not all that familiar with the workings of the 1904 model, and unfortunately the carb king is no longer around to weigh in on these matters. What I do know that applies to pretty much any heavy vintage vehicle regardless of carb model, is that it takes a healthy pump shot of fuel to get them underway from a dead stop. Have you observed your fuel squirt by looking down into the airhorn and blipping the throttle with the engine off? A weak dribble ain't gonna get-r-dun. You need a strong squirt of fuel the instant the linkage is manipulated. If you don't have that, you need to figure out why not. I don't believe this dashpot you inquired about would have anything to do with it.
