Possibly getting Diesel Scout Traveler

Hello, this is my first post. I currently do not own a Scout. I’m looking at a ’79 traveler diesel that I May buy. It is a 4x4 with 4 speed trans. The hood does not open due to broken cable. I found the work-a-round on this forum. The owner, nephew of the original owner, does not know if it has a turbo or not. A have a question about the Nissan diesel engine. How do you check the compression? Remove the glow plugs or injectors? What should the compression be? I am familiar with vw and cummins diesels, but not the Nissan diesels. The Scout has sat for over 15 years. Any advice / recommendations would be greatly appreciated before I jump into this. Btw, I’ve restored several cars in the past and have owned my own body shop, so the body and mechanical work that needs to be done is not a major issue. There is a “line ticket” pasted onto the inside of the glove box door. If I buy the Scout, I’ll post more about it. Thanks in advance....

Thanks for the info Jeff. I'm waiting for the owner to call me back with some more info, then I'll make the decision. I like what I've seen/read on your site. Are there any Scout clubs in socal's inland empire, san bernardino county area that you know of?
Thanks again for the info.

I found some Scout clubs in the greater l.a. Area. The owner never got back to me after several attempts and leaving a note on the windshield of the traveler. I went by there again the other day. Looks like they moved and sold the traveler or took it with them. oh well.... I'm going to hold off getting a Scout for now. We had to replace my wife's car, so it'll be a while. :icon_cry:
love this forum... Tons of great information.....
