Plug Wire Recommendation

Hello all,
I am going to be rewiring my Scout over the Christmas holiday. While doing that, I am going to install new spark plugs, new wire set and a new rebuilt delco distributor in place of my gold box Holley.

I have been doing some research on what people run for plug wires and it seems there are a few that are running the bosch 09757 plug set. Only thing I can't find out about them is if they are 8mm or not. I would prefer 8mm and a set ready to go. If I really had to I could go with custom fit, but prefer not to.

Any help on a good set of plug wires and product numbers would be greatly appropriated.

Thank you very much,
bill

For years, I've used the accel universal cable sets and cut each one to length for the cleanest routing.

In the last year I've switched over to using the comparable msd stuff in black as I think the vulcanized plug end terminations are bit more robust than the accel stuff. However, this product is an 8.5mm jacket. It works just fine for all distributor caps, fully compatible ends are supplied for any cap configuration.

The kit includes a very high quality stripping/crimping jig.

If you are going to terminate your own cables, I'd suggest doping each boot with a silicone spray product to ease the fitup, and always use silicone "boot grease" on the spark plug end with any cable termination.

All these modern cable systems are helical wound (or "spiral core") design which is far superior to the oem carbon/graphite product used for many years for rfi suppression.

In my world, "brand name" don't mean shit anymore, and the msd cables do have a price advantage for me locally, that is why I now use 'em:

black super conductor 8 cyl multi-angle, universal - 31193

I never use "pre-cut" plug cables, they simply don't allow for cable routing in the manner I prefer.

Looked at the wires and they good to me. I think I can handle cutting and crimping my own.
I did forget to mention that I have pertronix in the distributor and will be running a flamthrower coil. Does that make a differece on 8 or 8.5mm wires?

Mr. Mayben, would you happen to have a diagram or link to the wire routing that you prefer? Right now mine is all over the place, but would like to make it look right and not cause any issues.

Also, where is the best place to purchase these wires. Summit wants almost $90 for them.

The type coil chosen makes no difference to the plug cables! All these helical wound cables are considered "low resistance" conductors but well within the range for use with any coil, distributor trigger, capacitive discharge box, etc.

The plug cable routing on my rigs are both different and nothing at all like a stocker! I have to keep my stuff very flexible in this regard since I'm constantly removing and installing distributors for testing purposes. And I have some fairly strange distributor cap configurations that I swap in and out depending upon what distributor/cap combo I'm testing that make for one more reason I prefer to terminate my own cables.

This pic is one way I routed when I did the rpt manifold install, these are the accel wires with wire markers attached. This shot shows an oem-type coil but relocated on the bracket to stand it up.

I pay $48 locally on the shelf at o'reillyshucks for the msd universal cables, the accel cables are around $56 at knecht's.

This is a more recent pic, this rig is now running a mallory six cd box with an appropriate low resistance msd e-core coil triggered by a pertronix inna Holley points distributor. More info about these performance ignition systems are found in this thread:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/ignition-tech/644-ignition-system-performance-upgrades.html

The Travelall is currently running around with a partially-completed msd cd system. The plug cables shown in those pics are the msd items. Since that rig has ac, the cable routings are a bit different and I've since added a bit of cable looming. The distributor cap on that one currently is a Ford duraspark system that has been somewhat modded to fit, therefore I'm running female cap terminations on it. That cap is being tested along with a mag trigger setup that we May offer through ihon in the future, I don't want to show a pic of that setup as it May or May not end up being feasible.
