Plug looking things on rear differential

Hello, I bought a 73 1110 a couple months back. I knew I had a leak in the cover plate and pinion seal so I changed those. Then I cleaned 50yrs of grime off the outside and found these steel looking “plugs” in several locations around the housing. Mostly near where the axel attach’s to the housing and somewhat the same locations on each side…relatively anyway. A couple of them appear to be wheeping oil.

Anyone ever seen anything like these? Are they factory?
Any repair tips to fix the wheeping? JB weld or maybe a permanent weld if would hold

Thanks

Those are the "plug welds" that hold the axle tubes to the housing. Yes sometimes they can start leaking. From the factory they put a bead of RTV on the inside of the axle housing along the end of the tubes. You would have to take your axle mostly apart to see if the bead is still there or put a fresh bead in. On the outside you can try JB weld or a good RTV sealer and see if that helps with the leak.

I would suggest using Oven Cleaner to remove the grease first and then rinsing well with water. This will help the JB weld stick.

Got the welds fixed up with JB. Seems to be doing the trick. Just 1 small pinhole leak where the JB didn’t fill in well
