I am about to buy a Scout as mostly a daily driver (there is a back-up though). The problem is, I still haven't found "my" Scout. Assuming no four wheeling and an equal taste for the 80/800/Scout II, which is the easiest to operate/maintain (as if there really is such a thing)? I used to own a '76 Scout II, so that is really my only reference.

For daily driving and maintence Scout II hands down. Power steering, power brakes, bolt on accs. A/c possible hell even cruise control is possible. No question. Now for cool factor, well thats all about personal preference. Even though I love Scout II's I have a soft spot for the 800's. Always will, they are my first love and will always be my favorite IH.

I agree with Chad. I own a '68 800 and its pretty much my daily driver, all in town. Lots of turns and braking. It would be nice to have all the "cushie" power stuff that the sii's have. One day I'll have the power stuff on it, which is more money vs factory equiped, till then I'll keep working on my popeye arms. 
I do enjoy the attention the 800 gets though.

I did drive my 4 popper powered Scout 80 as my dd for 8 months or so, until I yanked the motor out for rebuild
. It was definitely a love/hate relationship. Your turning radius was less than my 1 ton flatbed w/ a 12 foot bed, your speed was limited to 65, and everything was manual. But, everybody would stop and stare at me when I was driving along. Every gas station I stopped at, I had someone ask what it was, or if they were over 50, they would talk about their Scout, or what they knew about them.
I always had to pump my own gas (oregon), as the tanks take 1/4 throttle, but you get used to all these things. The later models are the way to go for a dd, but I can't wait to start driving my 80 again!

When you hear that the 800 are pretty basic, they aint lyin. So as far as cost of basic parts, its pretty much the same.
However I think the "power" option parts run about the same as any other make. Anyone agree or diagree??
As far as hard to find, I think it depands on where you reside. In general, 800 parts are going to be hard to find, vs sii.
Around these parts, nebraska, you might as well forget it. Unless you know somebody who knows somebody
who knows this guy that has one in a junk pile in a pasture.
