I'm about to order a pertronix ignitor upgrade from IHPA.
What do ya get for 32 extra bucks in the ignitor 2 ?

I suppose pertronix can explain the difference better than me.

Basically the i2 has gon through more development and is a better product.. But read below the two links I have provided from the oem sight.

Pi-II ignitor II
Pi-I ignitor

Main reason I remember is that the 2 will allow you to get away with leaving the key in the on position (accessory power) and will not burn it up.

Rumor has it that the older version gets fried when the key is left in the on/run position. Common problem when some adjustments under the hood. The newer version was an upgrade to help prevent that.

This has been all what I have read through many threads on the subject. I run pertronix in both my prestolite dizzies, which only has one version. I haven't run into any problems yet.

Scooter, that's no rumor. Did that once. The unit melted and also burned the distributor cap. For no other reason that would lead me to go with the upgrade version.
