We were just notified that ernie bisio passed away July 1 2011. His obituary will be posted in the oregonian later this week.

I'm deeply sorry to hear about this. I'm honored that I got to meet ernie, see bisio motors and listen to ernie's stories. He will greatly be missed.

Wow. If scouts are an American icon, then bisio is a Scout icon. I have memories that go back to 1993 with earnie. I hope he isn't to disappointed that there is no rust in heaven.

Got the ok from the familly to continue the bisio award in his honor!

Bummer. :icon_cry:

bought my first Scout 2 part - a metal fuel filler neck - from ernie in 2004. I got the part, a tour of the lot, and 30 minutes of old stories.

Glad to hear the award will continue in his name.

Dboy,

thank you for the article with the video link. It was wonderful to watch/listen to him speak. As I've mentioned before, my Dad had a Scout 80 that I was still too young to drive by the time it broke down and Dad sold it. I have good memories in that Scout.

It's too bad to see him go... Was there any attempt to restart the dealership by his son or keep it going? It doesn't sounds like it, with the family selling the scouts off slowly. I realize that scouts were his thing, and it May not be for other family members. I have to respect that. I'd just wish that they had sold the whole thing only to someone willing to continue the business and maybe even expand it into a restoration dealer or something like that.

Ernie had no sons. He had one daughter, a real gem, and the apple of his eye next to his wife.

scouts were a business to put food on the table, and he liked his work. I had the good luck to meet him a couple of times, and learn a few things from him.

The parts side of the business did sell to another IH enthusiast's business, and ron did finally retire.

All things have a time, and some just have to gracefully go.
