Paint Code

Hey there guys-
I am getting ready for paint on my 79 and want to match the brownsh/tan that the military uses on desert vehicles. Any ideas on how to figure this out?

I don't know that they use and off the rack color. I would try asking around military supply stores (it's a long shot but a lot of those guys are vets or military enthusiasts with all kinds of info). What also might work out well is toyota puts out sort of a gold paint, my old tacoma was that color, take that and mix in something a little flatter like an off white...obviously test spray this mix on somthing to see if you like it but that's one way to go. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

On a side note I noticed from another post you were over in the east bay. I live in the north bay and for the life of me I have not been able to find a local 4x4 group that hasn't gone belly. Do you know of any?

Edit: I feel kind of foolish...there is a group on here specifically for bay area IH and I just posted in it.

The color swatches that a body/paint shop [earl scheib, maaco, whatever] Has on it’s wall should be good enough to make a choice. Besides, the military has various tints of “sand”.

This thread is probably already dead but just in case does anybody know what the factory code is for the olive green metallic I'd appreciate it. I have a 72 in this color and it could use a touch up. I don't want to repaint the dash and stuff so sticking to the factory color would be preferrable.

Thanks for the chart! I thought of my truck as more of a green but I guess according to that it's gold poly? I'll check the door sill and see what it says.

IH did not put paint codes on the manufacturer's plate like other makes.

The original paint code is on the line setting ticket (LST).

You can order one for your vehicle (using the serial number) from the wisconsin historical society (still $20.?) -- keeper of the IH archives.
