Oil pump gasket or not?

I am installing a oil pump in a 392, my question is should I use the gasket that comes in a gasket kit or not ? I have seen some with gaskets and some without and wanted some expert opinions on this, thanks

The gasket is more of a shim to create the correct internal rotor end clearance than a gasket by design. From my perspective, if you don't need the shim thickness for assembly I would make sure the cover is a good seal to the body.

That gasket should be used or a reliable gasket-less sealant like moto seal.

oops sorry bout that, I meant the gasket from pump to engine block, my bad
I always use the gasket with permatex aviation on both sides. My thinking is to make sure there is no pressure loss through out the system. Same with the o ring on the pick up tube where it fits into the pump body.

:icon_up:no need for it, as long as both surfaces are true. Just did a 345 re-freshen up ,( newbrgs, gaskets, hone-job ) I have 20-25 lbs., at idle, an 45-50 lbs., ( wet gauge ) at running speed at 55 mph. Used oil pump, no gasket at the block an pump.no sealer either, just oil coated the surfaces.Jeff
