oil accumulator

I don’t have experience and I have never run one, but in moab last year the Jeep in front of me had one of these things blow up. It dumped a lot of oil, looked like several quarts, and I gave him a small radiator clamp and a big bolt to plug the fill line and he got off the trail that way.
 
Yes, and I can tell you that for there intended purpose they are invaluable.
Oiling for a cold start or as a supplement to momentary losses of oil supply either in road racing of offshore marine racing.

The size (capacity) is directly related to how long they can supply oil during loss of pump pressure.
