NP205 Noise

[1975 200 4x4]

Took my 1975 200 4*4 out in the snow today to try the transfer case out. Went into gear but made a whine like gear noise. Aren't these boxes gear drive instead of chain ? Just sounded noisier then I think it should be. This is the first time putting into 4wd. Its full of oil already checked it. Haven't been around any IH 4wd in a long time. Thanks for any info.

They are gear driven.
Probably a rusty/squeaky bearing.

Drive driving it in 4wd high & low without the hub locked & see what happens.
